[KFAS 2025 AI Seminar] The AI Metamorphosis - Navigating New Frontiers in Technology, Society, and Human Experience
Abstract
We stand at an unprecedented inflection point where Artificial Intelligence (AI) transcends conventional technological boundaries, fundamentally altering the fabric of human civilization. The 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Demis Hassabis for AlphaFold 3 exemplifies this metamorphosis—demonstrating AI’s capacity to revolutionize domains far beyond its original conception. This transformation reveals AI’s dual nature: remarkable algorithmic versatility that enables the same foundations used in mastering Go to predict protein folding, coupled with an insatiable requirement for vast amounts of quality data accumulated through decades of human expertise. Unlike previous technological revolutions, AI’s impact radiates simultaneously across semiconductor manufacturing, biotech innovation, financial markets, regulatory frameworks, and geopolitical dynamics—creating an interconnected web of transformation that demands holistic understanding.
The emergence of Agentic AI represents a paradigmatic shift where domain expertise fused with AI agent capabilities becomes the defining competitive advantage across industries. From multiplexed biomarker platforms transforming drug discovery to private AI solutions protecting sensitive data in manufacturing, we witness the convergence of traditional sectors with AI-native approaches. This integration spawns novel business models, challenges existing privacy and regulatory frameworks, and necessitates sophisticated approaches to data governance, hardware optimization, and ethical implementation. Many articles spanning from quantum computing breakthroughs to deepfake legislation illustrate how AI’s tendrils reach into legal systems, cognitive science, military applications, and international relations—reshaping not just how we work, but how we govern, innovate, and interact as a global society.
As we navigate this metamorphosis, the critical imperative extends beyond technological mastery to encompass strategic wisdom in wielding AI’s unprecedented capabilities for human flourishing. Drawing from cross-sector insights spanning semiconductor supply chains, venture capital (VC) investment patterns, healthcare AI deployment, and regulatory evolution, this talk provides actionable frameworks for leaders to harness AI’s transformative potential while addressing challenges of inequality, privacy, labor displacement, and democratic governance. The goal is not merely to adapt to AI disruption, but to actively shape an AI-integrated future where technological advancement serves humanity’s highest aspirations—advancing health, safety, liberty, and equality as the foundation for genuine societal prosperity.

2012년 AlexNet의 출현이 불러온 인공지능은 전통적 기술의 경계를 초월하여 인류 문명을 근본적으로 변화시키고 있다. Google Deep Mind의 CEO인 데미스 하사비스에게 2024년 노벨 화학상을 안겨 준 AlphaFold는 천년의 기보를 배워 바둑에서 세계챔피언 이세돌을 물리친 AI 알고리즘이 이 세상에 존재할 수 있는 모든 단백질의 3D Folding을 예측할 수 있는 AI로 발전할 수 있다는 AI의 놀라운 Versatility를 보여줬다. 거대언어모델(LLM)과 생성형 인공지능(genAI)의 미증유의 발전이 가능케 한 새로운 개념의 Agentic AI의 등장은 바이오마커 플랫폼부터 Private AI 솔루션까지 AI를 통한 새로운 지형의 융합을 이끌며, 반도체 제조, Biotech, 금융시장, 규제 프레임워크, 지정학적 역학에 동시 영향을 미쳐 법률 시스템, 군사 응용, 국제관계까지 재편하고 있다. 이번 강연은 연사의 AI의 통계적, 인지과학적, 기술적 근본적 이해와, 반도체 공급망, 벤처캐피털 투자 패턴, 헬스케어 규제 진화 등 여러 분야에 걸친 통찰력을 바탕으로 불평등, 프라이버시, 노동 대체, 민주적 거버넌스 과제를 해결하면서 AI의 변혁적 잠재력을 활용할 실행 가능한 프레임워크를 제공하여, 어떻게 건강, 안전, 자유, 평등 증진을 통한 진정한 사회적 번영에 기여할 수 있는 AI 발전을 추구할 수 있는지에 대해 논의한다.
